What is Paid Family & Medical Leave?
Effective 2026, MN Paid Family & Medical Leave (MN PFML) is a mandated plan by the State of MN. This plan will allow workers to request a wage replacement benefit if they are sick or hurt and cannot work, or due to a family matter such as bonding with a new child, caring for a family member who has a serious health condition or to address a qualifying military exigency. Employers will have the option to elect the State plan or a private plan. For more information on this state mandated plan, please click on this link that will bring you to the State of MN https://mn.gov/deed/paidleave/
The MBA offers a private Minnesota Paid Family and Medical Leave plan through our partner, ShelterPoint. We are now able to provide quotes for private MN PFML coverage.
If you would like a quote for any quarter in 2026, please submit a census.

Caps and Gaps with MN PFML
While MN Paid Family Medical Leave intends to ensure Minnesotans can take the time they need to be there for life’s most important moments, there still will be ‘caps and gaps’ that could cause financial hardships for employees who don’t carry additional Short-Term Disability insurance. The MBA has Short-Term Disability plans that can help!
